The Penny School Gallery is delighted to host this very special Retrospective Exhibition of paintings and drawings created throughout the lifetime of Andrew Thomason. Born in Buckinghamshire he graduated in 1976 from Winchester School of Art. He exhibited briefly in Cork Street and in many small group exhibitions in the 70’s and 80’s but when he died at the early age of 53 he left a substantial body of unexhibited paintings and drawings. Andrew’s paintings are rooted in an understanding of European modernist painting, and informed by an appreciation of British painters such as Roger Hilton and Peter Lanyon. They engage with the themes that were central to much of 20th century art; executed with humour, intensity and a graphic and painterly fluency he explores notions of anxiety, isolation and personal identity.
